Story details

Iran’s Petroleum Ministry news agency Shana reported on October 7 that 23,834 metres of exploratory drilling were completed between October 2024 and September 2026. Drilling was finished on eight exploration wells, 13 targets matured and nine more received approval for future drilling. Shana stressed that approved targets are not discoveries or production.

The report also cited an estimated 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in place at the Takhteh field in Fars province and about 5.7 trillion cubic feet recoverable using an assumed 72% recovery factor. It reported about 200 million barrels of oil in place at Pazan and 2.4 billion barrels of oil in place added to identified resources in the Azar and Changuleh structures. These are resource and discovery estimates; appraisal, financing, field development and infrastructure are still needed before production.
