Story details

Ethiopian News Agency reported on 5 October that Ethiopian Capital Market Authority Director General Hana Tehelku described growing participation in the country’s developing securities market. She said the regulator oversees 26 registered companies, seven of which are in the securities market.

Tehelku said around 187,000 physical security records had been digitized in the central depository and nearly 38,000 citizens had opened investment accounts, most of them active traders. Daily transaction volumes, she said, consistently exceeded Birr 50 million and sometimes topped Birr 60 million. These are figures attributed to the authority’s director general in an ENA interview, not a live market feed; the report gives no longer-term series or breakdown by instrument.
