Story details

Egypt’s State Information Service reported that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated projects and expansion phases at nine factories in the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone on 6 September. He put investment at up to $85 million and said the openings would create about 2,000 jobs. Exports account for all output at some facilities and at least 70% at others, while local components range from 40% to 95%, according to figures presented during the visit.

The facilities span textiles and yarn, furniture, food processing, fertilisers, mining and medical products. Madbouly cited local production of dental chairs and an ambulance-refurbishment facility that can extend vehicles’ service life by five to six years. The figures on products and jobs were reported by officials and factory representatives at the inauguration. Madbouly said 212 factories were operating in the zone and 176 were under construction; completion of the latter within 18 months to two years was presented as an expectation.
