Story details
UNICEF said it was providing infection-prevention and control supplies, as well as water, sanitation and hygiene kits, to schools in Ebola-affected areas in support of the government. At Bakoko Primary School in Bunia, pupils wash their hands and have their temperatures checked before entering class. UNICEF said 350 schools were targeted in Ituri and 202 had received the kits by 8 October.
The training effort had prepared 150 trainers of trainers, who were continuing training and awareness work for more than 19,000 teachers in Ituri. That figure describes an ongoing effort, not completed teacher training. UNICEF reported that the measures helped schools resume activities; the account does not link school implementation to a change in case numbers.
