WHO updates August cholera figures for Nigeria, Sudan and South Sudan
The 2 October bulletin reports different case and death totals across the three countries and cautions that data are provisional and may be underreported.
The World Health Organization’s 2 October Weekly Epidemiological Record updated cholera reports through 30 August 2026. For August, it listed 10,807 cases and 62 deaths in Nigeria, 845 cases and 77 deaths in Sudan, and 975 cases and three deaths in South Sudan.
Cumulative reported totals from the start of the year through 30 August were 69,263 cases and 439 deaths in Nigeria, 2,887 and 247 in Sudan, and 14,190 and 122 in South Sudan. WHO says figures are provisional and may be affected by underreporting; the bulletin does not offer a causal comparison among countries.
A UNICEF account dated 1 October describes how rapid tests supplied earlier helped confirm cholera in a Gamboma household. It does not report a new case count.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page. The preference cookie lasts six months; advertising measurement and personalization stay off.
Your browser is sending a Global Privacy Control signal. Analytics is off by default; you may explicitly change this choice here.
