Story details

The health ministry said on 6 October that consultations and information sessions on implementing mandatory health insurance had formally opened in Kinshasa. The opening was chaired by the deputy prime minister responsible for the public service, representing the prime minister, alongside Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba. A World Health Organization representative presented on universal health coverage, while the director of the Health Solidarity Fund described the fund’s role in implementation.

The ministry said the government intends to extend solidarity coverage progressively to civil servants and workers in the informal economy. The announcement marks the start of consultations; it does not specify premiums, a benefit package, an implementation timetable or the number of people covered.
