Story details

DR Congo’s Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity, Aimé Sakombi, laid the foundation stone for a drinking-water project in Kananga on 5 October. A ministry statement cited by the Congolese Press Agency puts the total investment at about $164 million from the World Bank.

The plan includes a new Lulua treatment plant, rehabilitation and expansion of the Kanyuka plant, and reinforcement of the distribution network. The stated end-state target is nominal production capacity of 125,000 cubic metres a day and service for about 1.5 million people; these are planned outcomes, not current operating capacity or service levels.
