Story details
DR Congo’s Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity, Aimé Sakombi, officially launched the Hydro RDC digital platform on 4 October. A ministerial order reviewed by the Congolese Press Agency says the tool is intended for government, investors and project developers to identify and consult hydropower sites nationwide.
The order lists national hydropower potential at 167.25 gigawatts across 3,349 sites, 251 of which already have infrastructure that is operating or idle. These figures describe estimated potential and a site inventory, not installed generation capacity. The order says the mapping can be updated as additional potential sites are identified.
