Story details
In its August 2026 economic barometer, published on 25 September, the Central Bank of Congo said the overall gross balance of business leaders’ opinions rose to 44.3% from 44.0% in July. The bank said the survey results pointed to continued growth momentum among productive sectors. The balance of opinions measures participating businesses’ assessments; it should not be read as GDP growth or as a measured percentage increase in output.
By sector, the balance for extractive industries increased to 46.9% in August from 46.6% in July, while services rose to 33.4% from 32.1%. Construction edged up to 54.1% from 53.9%, and electricity and water to 28.1% from 25.2%; manufacturing slipped to 25.9% from 26.0%. The bank cited power-network supply constraints as a risk for extractive activity, while pointing to distribution-network work and infrastructure projects as supportive factors.
