Story details

The Republic of Congo’s Agency for the Regulation of Money Transfers (ARTF) presented electronic payment terminals to the Muslim community in Brazzaville on 5 October. The finance ministry said the outreach seeks to encourage operators in the informal money-transfer sector to comply with regulation.

ARTF Director General Jean Claude Basile Bazebi said 200 of a planned 1,000 terminals were available to connect operators. The ministry linked the initiative to digitisation under the 2026 Finance Law and said it should help collect taxes on transfer transactions. It gave no rollout timetable, coverage data or realised revenue figures.
