Story details
Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) announced C$15.9 million on September 3 for 15 manufacturing projects led by 11 Winnipeg-based organizations. Funding comes through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative and Business Scale-up and Productivity programme, with the stated aim of helping Manitoba manufacturers respond to pressure from U.S. tariffs while improving productivity and market reach.
The investments cover new equipment, automation, digital systems, workforce training and production expansion. The government said the projects support more than 358 jobs in total. Examples include about C$2.1 million across two Fort Garry Fire Trucks projects, about C$3.1 million across two Smartrend Manufacturing Group projects, and C$570,025 for City Sheet Metal. This is a regional allocation for Winnipeg projects within broader federal support, not a separate national package.
