Story details

Canada announced CAD 1.75 billion in federal venture and growth capital commitments on 22 October, combining a new CAD 1 billion catalyst initiative with a CAD 750 million early- and growth-stage strategy. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada said the aim is to help domestic companies secure funding as they expand.

The Growth VCCI allocation comprises CAD 700 million for fund-of-funds, CAD 200 million for life sciences and CAD 100 million for emerging managers. Its funding starts in 2026–27. The fund-of-funds call is open to qualified managers, including pension funds and other private-capital investors.

The separate CAD 750 million strategy assigns CAD 75 million to pre-seed and seed investment and CAD 675 million to later and growth stages. The Business Development Bank of Canada will administer investments in Canadian funds on the government’s behalf.

Ottawa anticipates at least CAD 3.8 billion in private capital, producing combined investment above CAD 5.5 billion. These are expected mobilization figures. The announcement does not establish that investors have already supplied that money or that individual companies have received funding.
