Story details
The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ June-quarter dwelling-stock release, published on September 8, estimated the total value of Australia’s residential dwellings at A$12,688.9 billion, down A$34.1 billion, or 0.3%. It was the first quarterly fall since September 2022. The mean dwelling price fell A$8,200 to A$1,100,400, while the dwelling count rose by 54,400 to 11,531,100.
Households owned an estimated A$12,183.3 billion of the residential stock. By state and territory, total dwelling value fell 2.0% in New South Wales, 1.6% in Victoria and 0.7% in the Australian Capital Territory, while it rose elsewhere. Total stock value reflects changes in both prices and dwelling numbers; it is not by itself a house-price index or an average sale price. The ABS describes current-quarter estimates as preliminary.
