Story details
The Asian Development Bank approved a $100 million concessional loan to expand access to affordable, disaster-resilient housing finance for low- and middle-income households in Bangladesh, particularly women. Funds will flow through Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation and eligible microfinance institutions as long-term, collateral-free loans.
By 2031, ADB expects the programme to provide loans to at least 40,000 households. Target beneficiaries include at least 32,000 women and at least 24,000 borrowers living in areas vulnerable to natural hazards. Loans will support home construction, repair and upgrades. The financing includes $40 million for climate adaptation, with an additional $600,000 in technical-assistance grants.
