Story details
Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning and Permits Centre launched Emirate DNA on 1 October 2026 as a framework for expressing the emirate’s identity in architecture and public space. The initiative was unveiled at LIVEX 2026 and draws on the culture, heritage and environment of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
The guidance covers building and villa façades, pedestrian bridges, mosques, paving, planting, shade structures, lighting, signs, benches, playgrounds and other public facilities. The stated aim is to give development a coherent emirate-wide approach while recognising regional character. The release describes a design framework; it does not set out binding rules, budgets or a schedule for implementation.
