Story details
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on major oil and gas projects on 5 October. The presidential office said two resolutions had been adopted this year to improve Uzbekneftegaz operations and address procurement and production issues. The presentation covered implementation of those resolutions, natural-gas production indicators and tasks through year-end. The announcement is an official summary of subjects reviewed, not an independent audit of production data or the text of a new decision. That distinction matters when interpreting the targets and projects as reported outcomes.
According to the statement, five new gas-condensate fields were discovered during 2026. Eighty wells were drilled from January through September, with 40 more planned for the final quarter. Exploration is being expanded in promising areas, particularly deep formations in Ustyurt. The presentation also addressed developing new fields and improving yields from existing wells. Projects with foreign partners in Ustyurt include drilling, reanalysis of geophysical data and work to improve gas-production efficiency. Officials said drilling needs more advanced methods and modern technologies. The release did not state expected output from the planned wells, investment costs or completion dates.
Combined net profit at Uzbekneftegaz and major enterprises under it reportedly increased in the first nine months compared with the same period last year. Optimization of the loan portfolio helped reduce debt, while revised terms for high-interest loans lowered debt-servicing costs. Projects to expand gas transmission include new trunk pipelines and upgrades to compressor stations. The package, including modern electric motors at selected stations, is expected to improve supply reliability and save up to 125 million cubic metres of gas a year. The saving is a projected project result, not a measurement of savings already achieved.
The presentation also covered the response to an accident at the 25th Anniversary of Independence field. A specialized Chinese company has joined the work; special machinery and equipment are being delivered, and preparations for well drilling are under way. The president stressed strict safety compliance at every stage. Officials said repairs to key process units at the Fergana Oil Refinery were followed by a 30% increase in diesel output, a 60% rise in bitumen and a fivefold increase in jet fuel. Utilization is expected to rise from 40% to 65% by year-end. The president instructed officials to improve exploration and drilling and base major projects on detailed calculations and identified financing. The release did not provide absolute production volumes or budgets.
