Sicily announced a €219 million plan on 19 October to improve the energy performance of public housing. Under investment 17 of mission 7, RePowerEU, in Italy’s PNRR recovery plan, 13 projects on the island were admitted for €142.7 million in incentives; Sicily obtained 9.09% of the 124 applications funded nationally.
The projects were submitted by public housing institutes in Catania, Siracusa and Messina. Planned works include building insulation and windows, replacement of heating systems and renewable installations such as solar PV, with a target of cutting energy use by at least 30%. The region said the projects involve about 2,000 households.
