Story details

Qatar National Library said in a 21 September notice that it and the Colombian Embassy in Qatar hosted Colombian composer, pianist and singer Oriana da Marte for a Book Chat. Titled “The Sounds of Macondo – Musical Interpretations of One Hundred Years of Solitude,” the gathering explored how music and storytelling meet in Gabriel García Márquez’s novel. The notice does not give the precise day the event took place, so the event date is recorded to the month.

Da Marte paired literary discussion with live performance inspired by her award-winning album Un Viaje a Macondo. Library senior librarian Haya Abdulla Al-Sheeb said the programme combined the novel with the artist’s compositions, while Colombian Embassy representative Camilo Vizcaya spoke about cultural exchange between the two countries. The library did not publish attendance or economic-impact figures; its notice describes the programme and its co-organisers.
