Story details

A flash estimate published by Statistics Poland on 30 September showed the consumer price index rising 4.0% in September 2026 from a year earlier. The agency said prices were 0.7% higher than in August. The corresponding index readings were 104.0 and 100.7. The release provides an early reading of the overall monthly price movement.

In August, consumer prices had risen 3.4% year on year and 0.3% month on month. The supplementary September flash table also reports price indexes for three groups: food and non-alcoholic beverages at 99.5 in the annual comparison and 100.1 in the monthly comparison; electricity, gas and other fuels at 104.9 and 100.9; and fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment at 136.1 and 109.2. Each comparison sets the earlier period at 100. These group indexes show price movements; they do not state the groups’ percentage-point contributions to headline inflation.

A flash estimate is the initial provisional reading in the national CPI series and should not be treated as a final result. The annual comparison measures the September 2026 price level against September 2025, while the monthly figure compares September with August. Those rates use different reference periods. Statistics Poland’s later full CPI release may provide more detail or revise the preliminary reading, so the 4.0% and 0.7% figures here refer specifically to the estimate announced on 30 September.
