Story details

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said the economy expanded by more than 4% this year in his 66th Independence Day address on October 1. He attributed the growth to gains in both oil and non-oil sectors and said non-oil export earnings exceeded $6 billion in 2025. Tinubu also cited lower inflation from its peak, stronger foreign-currency reserves and a more stable foreign-exchange market. These are government figures presented by the president in his address.

Tinubu described the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign-exchange unification as stabilization measures and said the administration would now focus on growth, jobs and living costs. He outlined plans to reduce farm and logistics costs through irrigation and modern inputs, improve transport links and use domestic gas to power industrial hubs. The speech was not a new national-accounts release, so the growth figure remains attributed to the president.
