Story details

Mali’s Press and Publicity Agency (AMAP) reported on October 3 that local officials, traders, fuel sellers, bakers, transporters and grain millers met in Tenenkou to discuss the cost of living. Participants said fuel supply had returned close to normal after a crisis, but prices of goods and transport that rose during the disruption had not yet fallen.

The reported Tenenkou–Bamako fare was FCFA 18,000 for a journey of less than 500 kilometres, compared with FCFA 7,000–8,000 previously. Bread rose from FCFA 300 to 350, while a 100-kilogram sack of millet climbed from FCFA 15,000 a few weeks earlier to more than 30,000. Petrol had fallen to FCFA 1,150–1,250 from a peak of FCFA 3,500–4,000. Subcommittees for merchants, fuel sellers, bakers and grain millers were tasked with proposing prices and fares; the report does not announce a new official price schedule.
