Story details
Iraq launched its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) on October 7. A United Nations in Iraq release dated October 9 says it sets an unconditional emissions reduction of up to 3% below business as usual by 2030 and a new unconditional target of up to 5% by 2035. These are commitments, not reductions already achieved.
For 2035, the NDC adds a conditional reduction of up to 17%, dependent on international climate finance, technology transfer and capacity support; the potential combined target is up to 22% below business as usual. The NDC covers energy, oil and gas, electricity, transport, industry, agriculture and waste. The release describes future implementation finance and monitoring, not measured emissions outcomes.
