Story details

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices for the European Economic Area rose 0.6% in September 2026 from the previous month. In a short release published on 20 October, Statistics Iceland said the index was 3.8% higher than a year earlier. The harmonised measure is designed to support price comparisons across countries and European aggregates.

The release gives these two changes for the EEA aggregate and does not break them down by country or spending group. The 3.8% figure should therefore not be read as Iceland’s national inflation rate. The 0.6% monthly movement compares the EEA consumer basket in August and September, while the annual rate compares index levels in September 2025 and September 2026.
