Story details

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi presented the architectural vision for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi on 5 October 2026, ahead of a planned opening on 11 December. The museum on Saadiyat Island was designed by Frank Gehry and is intended to connect its galleries and public spaces with the island’s coastline, climate and cultural setting.

The project comprises 28 galleries, 11,600 square metres of indoor gallery space and 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition space, within a total building area of 84,000 square metres. Its design includes ten monumental cones—nine clad in stainless-steel mesh and one in onyx and glass—intended to create shade and support airflow. The opening date was announced as planned; the release does not confirm that the museum is already open.
