Story details
GE Vernova said on 20 October it would supply a 9E gas turbine and generator for the Songon combined-cycle power plant being developed in Côte d’Ivoire. Songon Energies, the project developer, signed financing agreements in June, and China Energy International Engineering is the EPC contractor, according to the company. The plant is planned to deliver 372 megawatts, which GE Vernova equates to the power needs of about five million Ivorian homes.
The company says the facility, scheduled to start operating in 2029, could represent up to 12% of Côte d’Ivoire’s installed generation base. Infrastructure development is expected to create up to 1,400 jobs. These are project expectations, not realised capacity or employment. GE Vernova said the order was booked in its third quarter of 2026. It also expects to support the project with a high-voltage substation, digital software and long-term services.
