Story details
The Republic of Congo plans to serve its national data centre in Brazzaville with a combination of the grid and a solar installation at Kintélé. According to a September 24 report by the Agence Congolaise d’information (ACI), Deputy Prime Minister Jean Jacques Bouya visited the data-centre site in Bacongo and the Kintélé solar site on September 22. Bouya said construction at the data centre was about 82% complete and that the facility was expected to become operational by the end of the year. That is a government official’s target, not confirmation that the centre has entered service. The project is described as a national data centre intended to store public data and support digital services.
ACI reported that the Kintélé site has 19,354 panels and is intended to provide power to the data centre. The units used for power figures in the article are unclear, so this report does not state an installed capacity or hourly output. The minister of posts, telecommunications and the digital economy said relying only on the Énergie électrique du Congo (E2C) grid could create an energy-reliability risk for the data centre while the Brazzaville network is being strengthened. The report describes solar power being combined with the E2C connection. The panel count and proposed integration do not establish that the centre has uninterrupted power or how much electricity the solar installation will produce. ACI did not report operating measurements after completion or commissioning.
