Story details

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported on September 24 that household net worth rose A$201.1 billion, or 1.0%, to A$19,388.9 billion by the end of the June quarter. The bureau said growth in superannuation reserves and financial assets supported the increase. Demand for credit from non-financial domestic institutional sectors during the quarter was A$132.7 billion.

The ABS also reported that national investment increased A$25.6 billion to A$194.8 billion in the June quarter, capital investment remained 25.1% of GDP, and Australia’s net borrowing position fell A$9.2 billion to A$7.6 billion. Wealth is a stock measure; quarterly changes can include transaction flows and revaluations of assets. The figure therefore does not represent new income earned over the same period or an equal gain for every household.
